About Hypnosis for Insomnia
- In ancient times, forms of hypnosis are believed to have been used by the Egyptians and the Greeks.
- 1700's -Franz Mesmer, an Austrian physician, is considered the first western doctor to study hypnosis (then called "Mesmerism").
- 1800's - In the mid-1800's a British doctor named Baird is credited with coining the term "hypnosis" and for focusing on its relationship to sleep. Late in the 1800's at least two doctors appear to have used it as a form of anesthesia.
- 1950's -the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) recognize hypnosis as a valid medical treatment.
- 1995 -National Institutes of Health (NIH) concludes that relaxationand behavioral treatments such as hypnosis and biofeedback can alleviate some kinds of insomnia.
- 2007 -snooZcast is created to deliver hypnotic sleep audios direct to consumers through digital download.
