We're serious about rest

Dear Sleep-Deprived,

Thanks for coming to snooZcast. I'm here to offer you help. I know what it feels like to be bone-tired.

Twice in my life, I have had long, horrible periods of sleep disruption and I know how fast your concentration, work, relationships, ... life can unravel.  Everything, even the simplest decision, can become too hard.  In my case, one problem was waking up during the night and the other was not falling asleep in the first place.  Surprisingly, both problems were solved by the same solution!

This isn't something I made up.  It's not a drug, but it is approved by both the American Medical Association and the National Institutes of Health.  Since it's probably the middle of the night when you're reading this and there's not much chance of falling asleep or falling back asleep for a while, please let me tell you about it.

My first sleep problem lasted more than a decade.  When I was twenty, I woke up in the middle of the night because someone had broken in and his hands were on my body.  I actually scared him away, and at the time thought very logically about how lucky I had been.  But, a year later, I woke up in a panic thinking I had heard someone in the apartment.  From then on, I would fall asleep normally but often would wake up in the middle of the night, with so much panic that I couldn't fall back to sleep.  I knew it made no sense, so I didn't talk about it.  I just lived with being tired.

Second time, I got a bacterial illness from drinking stream water on my honeymoon.  I slept most of the time for about six months.  When that was over, my sleep cycle was so disordered that I couldn't fall asleep at bedtime.  For months, I would turn off the light and lie in the dark with my brain racing and no sign of sleep. This time, I talked to the doctor.  She suggested hypnosis.

Like you, I heard "hypnosis" and had serious doubts.  I pictured a fortune-teller sort of person in a room full of candles.  I was completely wrong.  This sort of hypnosis involves many years of university study and a Ph.D.   On my second visit, the doctor gave me a tape to listen to any time I needed it.  And, within a couple of weeks I was sleeping again.

Even though I don't have my original problems, there are still nights when I'm too excited, too preoccupied, or too stressed to sleep. Whether it's before a big trip, a big presentation, or just after another day's appalling stock market news, I know I can turn to snooZcast for a night's rest.

Sleep studies show that it's not how many hours you sleep, or whether you wake up during the night. Some people who look like they're having an awful night wake up feeling great and others who appear to sleep like a baby wake up miserable. This next part is my personal opinion and not confirmed science. I think hypnosis works because it focuses on relaxation not just unconsciousness (like drugs). The most common thing people say to me who try snooZcast is not how well they slept.  They tell me how rested they feel.

Our commercial may be fun, but our products are serious. These audio downloads were made a Ph.D. with a specialty in hypnosis.  Each one is created to address a specific problem - night time sleep; new mom naps; sleep while traveling; sleep in combat; and naps to get you through the day.  You can download them in minutes and play them on an iPod or any mp3 player or burn them to a CD.

Wishing you rest today, -k
